HPU2 Students Engage in Cultural and Language Exchange with the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Delegation

On August 15–16, 2026, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 (HPU2) hosted a vibrant cultural and language exchange program between the University’s students and the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Delegation under the Fulbright Program administered by the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam.

The exchange program brings together 22 American English Teaching Assistants (ETAs), all of whom are graduates of prestigious universities in the United States and represent a diverse range of academic disciplines. The ETAs are participants in the Fulbright Program of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. They are preparing to undertake English teaching support assignments at specialized high schools, colleges, and universities across Vietnam. Accompanying the delegation were representatives from the Office of Science, Technology and International Cooperation; the Office of Political and Student Affairs; the Youth Union and Student Association; as well as the university’s functional units.

A Diverse and Energetic Series of Experiential Activities

During their two-day stay at the HPU2 Residential Center, members of the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Delegation immersed themselves in Vietnamese student life through a diverse and engaging series of activities:

 

Experiencing Residential Life: The ETAs were accommodated in shared rooms with HPU2 students at the Residential Center, where they had the opportunity to explore the university campus, engage in conversations, and learn about the students’ daily life and living culture.

 

Sports and Traditional Games: A dynamic series of sporting activities was held at the University’s sports complex, featuring both competitive and recreational events such as pickleball, badminton, football, and volleyball.

 

Gala Dinner and Cultural Performance Night: On the evening of August 15, the Gala Dinner at the university’s Canteen provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere where HPU2 students and the ETAs enjoyed a variety of dishes and showcased outstanding cultural performances blending traditional and contemporary elements.

Language Exchange and Teaching Practice: In addition to activities that fostered cultural and social connections, members of the Fulbright ETA Delegation joined HPU2 students in language exchange sessions and pronunciation, listening - speaking practice through discussions on practical, real-life topics. They also participated in teaching practicum sessions with students from the Faculty of English. These activities provided HPU2 students with valuable opportunities to practice English in familiar, real-life contexts while gaining insights into the culture and communication styles of native English speakers.

An International Learning Environment and a Spirit of Global Integration

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program is part of a prestigious international educational exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. Government. In addition to supporting students in developing their foreign language proficiency, Fulbright English Teaching Assistants also serve as “cultural ambassadors,” fostering mutual understanding and strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries.

The exchange program not only provided HPU2 students with a healthy and engaging environment for interaction and helped break down language barriers, but also actively supported initiatives aimed at making English a second language in schools. The program further reaffirmed Hanoi Pedagogical University 2’s commitment to enhancing the quality of foreign language education, fostering a multicultural learning environment, and equipping young people with the skills and confidence needed for comprehensive international integration.
